Football is increasingly becoming the plaything of the wealthy. Traditional values — promotion and relegation on merit, an open pyramid accessible to any club, and democratic governance by supporters and local communities — are under sustained pressure.
Yet resistance to this trend remains poorly coordinated. A number of advocacy organisations exist, but few have a genuine democratic membership structure. Many clubs fight for reform, but typically only on the specific issues that affect them directly.
Fair Football Alliance is founded to change that — to advocate for a fair, well-governed pyramid in every country, leaving no club or territory behind. The principles section of this website sets out what we stand for. And this is deliberately just a starting point: the expectation is that our principles section will grow as membership grows.
Membership is open to anyone, anywhere in the world, free of charge. Members hold voting rights on the expansion of our principles. Where sufficient members exist in a given area, a country or regional chapter can be established. Voting rights are available from the age of 16.
A particularly important part of this initiative is the Milestone Clubs programme. We want to celebrate football tradition, football geography, and every club that gives its supporter-members a genuine say in keeping their club's identity alive. We do this through a certification mechanism.
Historical clubs can earn certification by demonstrating they are the oldest club in their country, or a founding member of the first competition ever held there. Clubs from the geographical extremes of their country can earn certification based on their location — the northernmost, the most remote, or the highest in altitude. A final certification, the North Star, is available to any club that is democratically organised and gives its supporters a meaningful voice. It is on the criteria for this last certificate that we particularly welcome input from the wider community.
We hope this resonates. If it does, please consider joining as an individual member — any and all support is welcome, and every membership will receive a personal acknowledgement.
